The designer Melissa Moya-Kessler has been creating jewelry since 1994. She had started on this path while creating her own beads from different materials while attending art school in Philadelphia, Pa. Melissa's major in school was not specifically jewelry or metals but mixed media. She put her hands into everything she could. She enjoyed woodworking, sculpture, photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, and stained/fused glass. When the mood strikes she does incorporate some mixed media ideas into her designs.
Melissa does not usually design her pieces beforehand. She loves to have the ability to create as she goes so as not to disturb her perfectionist gene too much. Her creations could be made from semi- precious stones, pewter beads/findings, sterling silver beads/findings, glass, wood, the occasional tree nut, and PMC clay (Precious Metal Clay). Each piece is One of a Kind. She does not duplicate as she wants each piece to have their own identity.
Melissa also does not continually stock the same stones or findings. This policy follows her "own identity" philosophy . Her earthy pieces are sometimes regarded as "beautiful and energetically powerful". She loves to hear from her customers/passers by how they feel and what they think about her pieces, as these comments help fuel her future designs. |
